About Baleària
Baleària is the ferry line for Balearic connections par excellence: founded in 1998 in Dénia on the Costa Blanca, it links Dénia, Valencia and Barcelona with Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, and sails between the islands too. Add to that the routes across the Strait of Gibraltar to Ceuta and Tangier, and the Caribbean arm Baleària Caribbean between Florida and the Bahamas. The fleet comprises 34 ships, including LNG-powered ferries and the Smart Ships with their digital onboard services.
Ships
Baleària serves Menorca with both ship types. The fast ferry Margarita Salas covers Alcúdia-Ciutadella in around one hour, with a terrace, bar, executive lounge and camera-monitored pet kennels. The conventional ferries Abel Matutes and Martín i Soler sail the route in the early morning, with private en-suite cabins and digital entertainment; Baleària also deploys the older Jaume. You'll see which ship is sailing your chosen departure once you pick a travel date.
Routes to Menorca
Both of Baleària's Menorca routes end in Ciutadella on the island's west coast, at the Son Blanc commercial port. Alcúdia-Ciutadella is the inter-island link with several departures a day - fast with the Margarita Salas, mornings and afternoons in summer, sometimes twice at weekends, or overnight with the conventional ferry. Barcelona-Ciutadella brings you straight from the mainland to the west, usually as an overnight crossing. If you're heading to Mahón in the east, other lines cover that route.
Check-in, vehicles & pets
On the Balearic routes, Baleària requires at least 90 minutes with a vehicle and at least 60 minutes on foot before departure at the port - after that, the line no longer guarantees boarding. Cars, motorbikes and bicycles travel on both ferry and fast ferry, motorhomes and caravans on the conventional ferries; give the dimensions when booking.
Pets travel in the pet-friendly cabin with a bed and water bowl, on the pet-friendly seat in a carrier on your lap or under the seat (up to 8 kilos including carrier, one pet per passenger), or in the Calm Houses, the ventilated pet kennels on deck or on the vehicle deck - on the Smart Ships with a camera you can check from your phone. Selected ships have an exercise area. Bring the pet's boarding pass and a valid pet passport.
Tickets
Booking happens through the route page's booking widget; the price is calculated live and depends on travel date, number of passengers, vehicle, accommodation and fare. Balearic residents get the state discount with proof, and offers such as free vehicle carriage apply only to the departures named in the promotion.
